Bastion Bolt Action Pen… A Full Review

Just like a lot of you, Bastion sent me a message. They wanted to send me a pen. You’ve probably seen it before. Sleek, smooth design, just the right length to be an amazing pen. They have so many colors to choose from so you can do the ol’ matchy matchy with your other EDC gear.  So being the adventurous guy that I am, I went with black.

Maybe you’re like me, you use your pen every day, multiple times a day, but it’s not your most used tool. It’s just a tool that you need to rely on when you need it. So it rides with you all the time.

So here it is, The black stainless steel Bastion Bolt Action pen. I do a little unboxing reel on Instagram, I’m sure you’ve seen it….

Anyway, this was a while back. I’ve been using this one for almost a year now. The ink that comes with it is pretty decent, it fits most G2 style cartridges. The bolt action is smooth and fidgety for when you need it. It’s got great action and deploys pretty quickly. So it’s a fine pen, but…..

It’s not easy to write with. Not only is the thing chunky(I know they just came out with a slim version), there’s no knurling or anything on the tip. So when you’re trying to write a parts list, or a food order, or whatever it is you need to write, your fingers slide off the pen, making it very uncomfortable to write with. If there was some kind of texture on it, it would be so much better. Just something to keep a grip on it. The ink cartridge that it came with does not write smooth at all which may not be a big deal to some people, but I prefer a pen that writes nice and smooth. So I would definitely recommend replacing that with a better cartridge that will fit.  It’s not a deep pocket carry, not a deal breaker, a lot of pens aren’t but the clip is secured with 2 torx screws that screw into the barrel of the pen so hold it in your pocket or notebook or wherever you clip it.

I know you can get it in a wide variety of colors, and they even have a titanium version of it now, which is polished. At 69.99 I feel like this could be a better writing instrument.

Maybe I’m in the minority on this, but I feel like I haven’t seen many people posting them like they once were. I’m not seeing a lot of anything on Insta at the moment but that’s a completely different article.

So if you need a pen to write with and want something fancier than a bic, I would honestly look elsewhere. Again this is just my opinion but I feel at this price point there are better options out there.

Let me know what you think about them.

Thanks
